Wedneday, June 13, 2012

It was a special day in what turned out to be a fantastic week. The fun started on Monday, when Lisa and I went to our lodge's monthly meeting. There I was presented with a Communications Award from B'nai Brith Canada for having the best website.

The next day, of course, was my 54th birthday. Lisa and I went to the Fish House for dinner.

I will return to the opening date being discussed here. The Thursday was the one quiet day of the week and the only one we ate at home.

On Friday, I took the day off and the three of us went to Stratford to see The Matchmaker and 42nd Street (more about that can be found at Stratford 2012).

We got back Saturday and Sunday, June 17 was Father's Day. I went out this morning and bought bagels and lox for breakfast. I had already gotten a gift from Jordana the previous day (a gift card from Indigo! /Chapters/Coles) and during breakfast Lisa gave me gift cards for the LCBO.

Afterwards I went to fitness and then to Bed, Bath & Beyond, where I bought Jordana's grad gift. In the afternoon we went to Bathurst Lawn Cemetery, where we ran into Michael, then to Hartman's to buy meat for Jordana and then headed back to Oakville. After dropping the food off at her place, we enjoyed a delicious dinner at the Keg, paid for by both Lisa and Jordana. At the beginning of the meal, we gave our very surprised daughter her gift. After dinner we took Jordana home and were back at our place by 7:05 p.m.

Now, let's back up a few days to June 13, the day Jordana graduated from Sheridan College as an Early Childhood Educator. (she got her professional registration, making her a RECE, the next day.)

After a relaxing morning at home, we picked Jordana up in Oakville at 1:00 p.m. and headed to Mississauga to the Living Arts Centre. We got there and Jordana decided to order a class ring. I was surprised, but the entire ordering process went very smoothly, as she knew exactly what she wanted. Then it was time to say goodbye, as our daughter went upstairs for robing, while Lisa and I went to wait for the doors to open so that we could be seated.

At about 2:50 the doors opened to Hammerson Hall and shortly after 3:00 p.m., the convocation ceremony was underway.

For those who have not sat through one, convocations are long and drawn out. Of course the shining moment finally came, when they called out Jordana's name and our daughter walked across the stage to be handed her diploma (ok, actually a folder, as she got the official document backstage, as well as photo taken at left). It was special, and a thousand positive emotions, thoughts and feelings rushed through me. Of course, I saw the entire event through the lens of my camera.

I also enjoyed the various speeches made during the course of the program. The entire program ended after 5:00 p.m. Afterwards we met Jordana in the foyer for a reception and took some more photos. Finally, it was time to depart and so we headed to Scorpio Seafood & Steak House in Mississauga, where we had dinner reservations with David and Jennifer.

The dinner and service was very good and I would recommend the restaurant to anyone.

So that's how one special day (and week) in June 2012 unfolded. A true simcha!
